Learn the phrases you need to answer, make, and end phone calls confidently in English.
Hello everyone, and welcome back to LienguaFlow Daily English. I'm Sarah, and today we're talking about phone calls.
When you answer the phone, you can say: "Hello?" or "Good morning, this is Sarah." At home, people often answer with their last name: "Mitchell residence."
When you make a call, start with: "Hello, this is Sarah. May I speak to Mark, please?"
If you can't hear well: "Sorry, you're breaking up" means the connection is bad.
If you need someone to speak louder: "Could you speak up, please?"
To ask someone to wait: "Just a moment, please" or "Hold on, please."
If the person isn't available: "I'm afraid she's not in right now. Can I take a message?"
To leave a message: "Could you ask him to call me back? My number is..."
To end a call: "Thanks for calling. Talk to you soon. Bye!"
Practice these phrases with a friend, and soon phone calls in English will feel completely natural. See you next time!
