The Kind Stranger: A Short Story

A touching story about a stranger whose small kindness changes everything for a tired traveler.

Welcome back, story lovers. I'm Emily, and tonight's tale is called "The Kind Stranger."

Ramin was a young man who had spent the whole day traveling. He missed his last bus, and the next one wouldn't come until morning. The station was cold and empty.

He sat on a bench, shivering, when an old man approached him. "You look frozen, son," the man said. "My house is just across the street. Come, drink some tea and warm up."

Ramin hesitated. He had always been told to be careful with strangers. But something in the old man's eyes felt kind and safe.

They walked to a small house filled with the smell of saffron and stew. The old man's wife served them tea with dates. For the first time that day, Ramin felt warmth spreading through his body.

"Where are you headed?" the old woman asked. "To my mother's village," Ramin said quietly. "I haven't seen her in two years. I wanted to surprise her for her birthday."

"Why are you on the night bus, then?" asked the old man. Ramin sighed. "I spent too much on the train. I only had enough left for the cheapest ticket."

The old man stood up and walked to a drawer. He returned with a bundle of money. "Here," he said. "Take the morning bus instead. No son should sit in the cold all night."

Ramin tried to refuse, but the old man insisted. "One day, when you're older, do the same for someone else. That's all I ask."

Ramin arrived at his mother's village the next morning, warm and full of gratitude. He never saw the old man again, but he never forgot him.

Years later, when Ramin saw a tired young man at a bus station, he remembered the kind stranger. And he bought him a ticket home.

Kindness, dear listeners, has a way of traveling further than any train. And that's the end of our story. Sweet dreams.
