Ordering Coffee at a Café

A realistic conversation between a customer and a barista, with phrases for ordering, paying, and chatting.

Hello everyone, and welcome to another real-conversation episode. I'm James, and today we're in a café!

Let's imagine you walk in. The barista says: "Good morning! What can I get started for you?"

You reply: "Hi, I'd like a cappuccino, please." The barista asks: "What size would you like — small, medium, or large?"

This is your chance to be specific: "Medium, please. And could I get it with oat milk?"

If you want to drink it there, you can say: "For here, please." If you're taking it with you: "To go."

The barista might ask: "Would you like anything to eat with that? We have fresh croissants." A natural answer: "Sure, one chocolate croissant, please."

Now the payment question: "That'll be six fifty. Card or cash?" You can say: "Card, please." or "Cash." When you hear the total, just hand over the payment.

Here's a nice touch: a friendly customer might ask the barista: "Busy morning?" And the barista replies: "Always on weekends!" Small talk like this is very common in English-speaking cafés.

Don't forget the magic words. When your order is ready: "Here's your cappuccino, have a great day!" You say: "Thank you, you too!"

Remember these key phrases: "I'd like," "Could I get," "For here or to go," and "Card or cash." Use them next time and you'll order like a regular!

That's all for today. Keep practicing, and see you next time!

این عبارات کلیدی را به خاطر بسپارید: "I'd like," "Could I get," "For here or to go," و "Card or cash."
