Master advanced negotiation language: polite disagreement, strategic compromise, and persuasive phrasing.
Welcome to a special episode on the art of negotiation. Whether you're closing a business deal or asking for a raise, the words you choose can change the outcome.
Lesson one: reframe, don't reject. Instead of "No, that's impossible," try "That's one option, and I'd like to explore an alternative that works for both of us." You haven't said no, but you've opened a new door.
Lesson two: use tentative language to stay flexible. Words like "perhaps," "potentially," and "would you consider" soften your position without weakening it. "Would you consider adjusting the timeline?" is far more effective than "The deadline is impossible."
Lesson three: anchor with evidence. When you ask for a raise, don't say "I deserve more." Say "Over the past year, I increased revenue by eighteen percent and led three successful projects. Given these results, I'd like to discuss adjusting my compensation." The numbers do the persuading.
Lesson four: the power of silence. After you make an offer, stop talking. Silence makes the other person uncomfortable, and they often fill it with a better offer or a concession. It's a well-known negotiation tactic.
Lesson five: know your walk-away point. Before the conversation, decide what you will not accept. This is called your BATNA — best alternative to a negotiated agreement. It gives you confidence and prevents bad deals.
Finally, end on a collaborative note. "I'm glad we found common ground. Let's formalize this and check in next week." That leaves the relationship strong for the next negotiation.
Practice these phrases aloud. Record yourself. The more naturally they flow, the more powerful you become.

«Would you consider adjusting the timeline?» بسیار مؤثرتر از «The deadline is impossible» است.
