The Umbrella Maker — short story

An umbrella maker repairs a girl's grandmother umbrella and learns that some things are priceless.

In the small town of Drizzle, it rained almost every day. People needed umbrellas, and they broke often. Mr. Kim was the only umbrella maker. He sat in his small shop and repaired broken umbrellas with care. He used strong cloth and shiny metal. One day, a little girl came with a broken umbrella. "Can you fix it?" she asked. "It was my grandmother's." Mr. Kim looked at the umbrella. It was old but beautiful. "I will try," he said. He worked all night. In the morning, the umbrella looked new. The girl smiled and paid him with a single coin. Mr. Kim did not mind. "Some things are worth more than money," he said. The rain stopped that afternoon, and the sun came out. People put away their umbrellas and smiled. Mr. Kim smiled too.
