Two Brothers — short story

A carpenter builds a bridge instead of a fence, helping two feuding brothers reconcile.

Two brothers lived on neighboring farms. One day, they had a terrible argument over a fence that separated their properties. Neither brother would speak to the other. One morning, a carpenter came to the older brother's door. The older brother hired him to build an eight-foot fence between the farms. The carpenter worked all day. When he finished, the older brother discovered that the carpenter had not built a fence at all. Instead, he had built a bridge over the creek. The younger brother walked across the bridge and said, "You are a great man to build this after what I said." The brothers hugged. The carpenter picked up his tools and left.
