The Mapmaker's Daughter — short story

Lina follows a secret map left by her deceased father and discovers his hidden legacy.

In a coastal village, there lived a mapmaker named Henrik. He spent his life drawing maps of places he had never visited, relying on travelers' stories and old compasses. His daughter, Lina, grew up surrounded by parchment and ink. She dreamed of seeing the world her father drew but could never leave because Henrik needed her help. When Henrik fell ill, Lina found a hidden map in his workshop — one that showed a route to an island no one had charted. After her father passed, she followed the map alone. The journey took three months by sailing boat. She found the island, and it was exactly as her father had drawn it: two mountains, a hidden bay, a single palm tree on the shore. She realized her father had been there once, long ago, before she was born. He had kept it as a secret — a gift for her to discover.
