The Clockmaker's Secret — short story

A clockmaker repairs a watch and discovers a hidden love note inside.

Old Marcus was the only clockmaker in town. Every clock he repaired ticked perfectly, and people said he could fix anything with gears and springs. One day, a young woman brought him a pocket watch that had stopped working. "This was my mother's," she said. "She passed away last month." Marcus took the watch and said, "Come back in three days." For three nights, Marcus worked by candlelight. Inside the watch, hidden beneath the gears, he found a tiny folded note. It read, "To my daughter — time is the most precious gift we give each other." He placed the note back, repaired the watch, and when the woman returned, it was ticking beautifully. "How much do I owe you?" she asked. "Nothing," Marcus said. "Some things are priceless."
