Clear up the confusion between these two commonly mixed-up tenses.
Hello, grammar explorers! I'm Dr. Rachel Green, and today we're tackling one of the most common grammar questions: Present Perfect vs Past Simple.
Let's start with Past Simple. We use it when we talk about a finished action at a specific time in the past. "I visited London last year." "She graduated in 2024." The key word here is: specific time.
Now, Present Perfect. We use it when the time is NOT specific, or when the action has a connection to the present. "I have visited London." (At some point in my life, no specific time.) "I have lived here for five years." (I still live here.)
Here's the trick: if you mention "yesterday," "last week," "in 2020," or "ago," you MUST use Past Simple.
"I have been to Paris" vs "I went to Paris last summer." Both are correct, but the emphasis is different.
Common mistakes: "I have seen him yesterday" is WRONG. It should be "I saw him yesterday."
Another rule: Present Perfect with "for" and "since." "I have worked here for three years" or "I have worked here since 2023."
Remember: Past Simple = finished time. Present Perfect = unfinished time or experience.

بیایید با گذشته ساده شروع کنیم. وقتی از یک عمل تمام شده در زمان مشخص در گذشته صحبت میکنیم استفاده میکنیم. "سال گذشته لندن رفتم." "اون در ۲۰۲۴ فارغ‌التحصیل شد." کلمه کلیدی اینجا: زمان مشخص.
حالا، حال کامل. وقتی زمان مشخص نیست، یا وقتی عمل ارتباطی با حال داره استفاده میکنیم. "من لندن رفتم." (در نقطه‌ای از زندگیم، بدون زمان مشخص.) "پنج ساله اینجا زندگی میکنم." (هنوز اینجا زندگی میکنم.)
ترفند اینه: اگه "دیروز"، "هفته گذشته"، "در ۲۰۲۰" یا "قبل" رو ذکر کنید، حتماً باید از گذشته ساده استفاده کنید.
"من پاریس رفتم" در مقابل "من پاریس رفتم تابستان گذشته." هر دو درست هستن، ولی تأکید فرق داره.
اشتباهات رایج: "من دیروز اونو دیدم" اشتباه هست. باید بگید: "دیروز اونو دیدم."
یک قانون دیگه: حال کامل با "for" و "since." "سه ساله اینجا کار میکنم" یا "از ۲۰۲۳ اینجا کار میکنم."
یادتون باشه: گذشته ساده = زمان تمام شده. حال کامل = زمان تمام نشده یا تجربه.
