NASA has formally confirmed that construction of the Habitation and Logistics Outpost, the primary living quarters aboard the Lunar Gateway space station, will commence in early 2027. The module, built in collaboration with the Canadian Space Agency and the European Space Agency, will house up to four astronauts during extended missions in lunar orbit. The announcement comes as part of the broader Artemis program, which aims to establish a sustainable human presence on and around the Moon. Engineers at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center have already completed thermal vacuum testing of critical life-support subsystems. The Gateway will serve as a staging point for missions to the lunar surface and, eventually, as a technological stepping stone for crewed expeditions to Mars. Budget estimates place the total cost of the module at approximately $2.8 billion.
