Director Christopher Nolan's latest film, titled Meridian, earned an estimated $285 million worldwide in its opening weekend, setting a new record for the biggest non-franchise debut in cinema history. The science fiction epic, which stars Cillian Murphy as a physicist attempting to manipulate the flow of time, was shot entirely using IMAX cameras across locations in Iceland, Japan, and Morocco. Critics have praised the film's visual effects, complex narrative structure, and Hans Zimmer's haunting musical score. The previous record holder was Nolan's own Tenet, which opened to $200 million in 2020. Industry experts attribute the strong performance to unprecedented advance ticket sales, with many screenings selling out within hours of tickets becoming available. A sequel has not been officially confirmed, but Warner Bros. Discovery has reportedly begun early discussions.
