English listening practice with audio

Train your ear with graded audio: conversations, podcasts, songs and news, each with a transcript so you can check what you missed instead of guessing.

Why transcripts matter

Listening without a transcript can turn into background noise. With the text available you can replay the same passage and match what you hear to what was said — the single most effective listening drill there is. Use it after the first listen, never during it.

Choosing the right difficulty

Material that is slightly above your level teaches the most: you should understand the gist on the first listen and most details by the third. If you need every sentence repeated three times, step down a level; if you catch everything at once, step up.

Where to start

Begin with graded conversations and short podcasts, then move to songs with highlighted lyrics and graded news. Every listening session should end with a quiz or a summary you say out loud, so comprehension is proved rather than assumed.

Three listening habits that change the result

First, never pause mid-sentence — finish the clip and come back. Second, write down the timestamp of anything you missed instead of stopping to hunt for it. Third, replay the same passage the next day, when the memory has faded enough that you genuinely have to listen rather than recall.

Frequently asked questions

Should I read the transcript while listening?
Listen first without it, then use the transcript to check the parts you missed. Reading along from the start removes most of the benefit.
Which section is best for beginners?
Graded conversations and the audio songs section, where the lyrics are highlighted as they are sung.
How long should a listening session be?
Fifteen to twenty minutes with one repeat of the same clip is more productive than an hour of new material.
